There is nothing as precious as the innocent smile of a child. Unfortunately not all children have the chance to go through life with something as simple as a smile. That is where Operation Smile comes in.
In 1982, Operation Smile was founded by Dr. William P. Magee Jr. a plastic surgeon, and his wife, Kathleen, a nurse and clinical social worker. Since that time Operation Smile has provided medical services to over 140,000 children and has a presence in more than 51 countries.
Operation Smile mobilizes a world of generous hearts to heal children’s smiles and transform lives across the globe. Their network of volunteers works worldwide to repair childhood facial deformities including cleft lips and cleft palates.
As a registered dental hygienist, this is something that is very close to my heart.
